WHEN PACKING:
- Make sure you have a suitable suitcase that is sturdy and on wheels
- Always use a small lock with keys or a code to secure your suitcase
- I also recommend having your suitcase cling wrapped at the Airport upon departure – average cost R35 – R50 depending on the size of your case.
- Label all suitcases clearly with contact information to make your luggage easily identifiable to you when claiming all off the carousel but also for the Airline Handling Staff.
- Shoes:
- 1 x comfortable walking shoes and of course – socks!
- 1 x light casual everyday shoes
- 1 x formal pair
- Sunglasses and suntan cream
- Cosmetics must include a good face / body moisturiser
- Decant shampoos/conditioners into smaller travel containers
PACK AS LIGHTLY AS POSSIBLE –
KEEP EVERYTHING DOWN TO A BARE MINIMUM
One of the simplest ways I have found over the years has been to lay out all items of use on my bed . Then divide into
- ESSENTIALS – Up to 50 %
- NON-ESSENTIALS – Up to 10 %
- USEFUL ACCESSORIES – Up to 20 %
- PURCHASES / EXTRAS – Up to 20 %
(e.g a pashmina can double up as evening wear or be used as a light wrap when weather turns cold)
I was given this tip years ago: by taking only 1/ 3 of what you initially started with, makes travelling much more manageable and FUN!
There is NOTHING worse than the burden of a suitcase that is FAR TOO HEAVY…
ESSENTIALS FOR LADIES
- Mirror
- Good foundation / powder / neutral lipstick and waterproof mascara
- A few inexpensive jewellery items that can be worn to highlight any outfit
- Wear light soft cotton fabrics as these breathe more
- Roll up clothing in suitcase as it comes out less creased and saves space
